River Bourgeois Community Festival Moves Into the Last Day of the Festival Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of It's Community.
The River Bourgeois Festival will be hosting a Kids Pancake Breakfast starting at 9am. Admission is $2.00 per child, followed by a painting bash in the hall basement. Fill your belly and let your creative minds soar.
At 11am there is a Children's Tie Dye Party. Fee $2.00, take old clothes or anything you want dyed. A snack will be provided and music of their choice will be played.
From 11am to 4pm take in the Art Show at Boyd's Warehouse featuring local artisans.
From 1pm to 3pm there will be Cardboard Boat races. Build your own boat at the docks with materials supplied. Pre-register with Christine at 535-3085. Fee is $10.00. Children under age ten must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must have their own life jacket.
From 4-6pm enjoy a delicious Potluck Supper. Admission is adults $8.00, children under 10 years $5.00.
At 7pm the Festival Concert will take place, admission is $5.00 per person. Come and be entertained by great musicians and by emcee Joey Jones.
Cape Breton Seafood Chowder - a True Cape Breton Speciality...
Cape Breton Seafood Chowder
8 medium size potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
1/4 cup chopped carrot
2 large finely chopped onion
2 (12 fluid ounce) can CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
4 (6.5 ounce) cans minced clams ( save 1 cup of water from
clams)
1 bag of chowder mix
If you can’t find the chowder mix use - ( shrimps, haddock,
scallops or any fish that you like)
1 cup water (kept
from clams)
Salt and pepper to taste
Set aside ½ cup of whole milk in case chowder is too thick.

PREP 15 minutes
COOK 45 minutes
READY IN 1 hour
Directions
1.COOK in a large saucepan over medium heat onions and clams
and chowder in butter stirring occasionally until done. In a large saucepan
place potatoes and carrot, and a dash of salt in water and cook, stirring
frequently, until potatoes and carrots are tender, drain and set aside. When fish
and onion mixture is cooked add in potato mixture and stir.
2 To the mix add evaporated milk and clam water, salt and pepper to taste and
reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring frequently, for 15 to 20 minutes or
until creamy and slightly thick. If chowder is too thick add ½ cup whole milk
and enjoy.
I like to serve my chowder is a bread bowl just to make it
extra yummy.

Delicious Apple Cake Can Be Served Anytime of Year. Nova Scotia Apples Are Perfect For Any Desserts.
One Bowl Apple Cake - This cake is so moist and rich and just perfect for this time of year. (and easy to make!)

Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 heaping teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup oil
6 medium Gala or Fuji or Honey Crisp apples
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, cinnamon and oil. Peel and slice the apples and add to mixture in bowl (coating as you go to keep apples from turning brown.) Mix together the baking soda and flour and add to the ingredients in the bowl. Mix well (best with a fork) until all of the flour is absorbed by the wet ingredients. Pour mixture into a greased one 9x13 or two 9″ round pans. Bake for approximately 55 minutes.

Celebrating the Spirit of Community in St. Peter's- Swim the Canal August 3, 2014
Celebrating our the Spirit of Community in St. Peter's, Come join in the Swim The Canal Event from 2:30pm to 5pm at the St. Peter's Canal Lock House. Louie's Cosy Corner Restaurant service will have snacks available during the event, food prices vary. There are 3 swim options through the locks and all swimmers will be awarded a certificate to acknowledge their accomplishment, the age limit for the swim is 12 years and up. This event will bring people together through a fun and nostalgic community activity, reviving what was once a common occurrence of summer time years ago. Lieutenant Governor's Brigadier General The Honourable J.J. Grant, will be on site to present St. Peter's with the Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award. There is a $10.00 cost or $20.00 per family to do the swim to cover the cost of insurance needed to hold the event and for a T-shirt while the supple lasts.
