Today we were very happy to have Michel Samson, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism take time out of his busy schedule to come to Battery Provincial Park in St. Peter's to make an announcement of an extension to the park's season. This has been something that the people in St. Peter's has been requesting for some time. The Visitor Information Centre and the tourism committees as well as many other organizations have sent in letters and petitions for a number of years and now we are overjoyed to have our requests finally granted. Special thanks to Zach Churchill, Minister of Natural Resources for his ruling and to Michel Samson for making the announcement.
Here is what Mr. Samson had to say.
Today I had the pleasure to make an important announcement for our County. On behalf of Minister of Natural Resources, Zach Churchill, our government has extended the season for Battery Park in St. Peter's.The traditional closing for the park was September 8th. Today I announced the park will remain open until October 21st. This will keep the park open throughout the Celtic Colours festival. It is out hope this will allow more visitors to remain in Richmond County. As well, this will provide longer employment for our hard working and committed park staff.
I want to thank Councillor Steve MacNeil, Warden Steve Sampson and all of Richmond County council for their support for this extension to the park season.
Now it is up to all of us to share with family, friends and visitors that the park is open until October 21st.
Merci.
