1pm – 5pm: - Swim the Canal 2022: Far from Ordinary…. Be
Extraordinary. Our sixth annual “Swim the Canal” event has become an
extraordinary community tradition of fun, festivities and celebration. There
are two swim options, enter in the world-famous Bras d’Or Lake through the St.
Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, ending at Battery Provincial Park beach
on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. You
can swim the length, 800 meters or the width, 100 meters from Battery Park to
the canal wall and back All swimmers receive a monogrammed “Swim the Canal”
towel to acknowledge their accomplishment. Swimmer info available here.
Spectators welcome. Come cheer us on. Be one of the growing list of
extraordinary individuals that can say… they swam the length of a historic

Hosted by The Village on the Canal Association. Location: On site registration
and check-in for those pre-registered at Battery Provincial Park beach, St.
Peter’s, 1:00 pm. Cost: $20 per person when you book before August 7th or $25
if paying on the day of the Swim. Conditions: The admission cost ($20) is to
cover insurance, lifeguards, washroom facilities, musicians, t-shirts for
volunteers etc. and a “Swim the Canal” water bottle. Any profits from the event
usually go to VOCA to help fund community events and charities. This year any
profits we be set aside for a charity to support Ukrainian refugees. An online
waiver is required to be acknowledged during registration or signed during
manual registration. Swimmers acknowledge and accept the risks involved in this
particular adventure tourism event. We encourage the slow swimmers to start
first to minimize the overall time in the water.

*Richmond County Recreation will be holding their 20th
Summer Surf Program at Point Michaud. They are excited to offer the Kids Surf
Club and the Junior Surf Club this year.
Surfboards and wetsuits will be provided for each
participant, with land and water instruction. The importance of equipment
familiarization and maintenance will be taught in these clubs and your kids
will be sure to ride a wave with confidence this summer.
Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays for 8 weeks. The fee for
the kids Surf Club (ages 8 to 12 years) is $120.00 for the summer and the
Junior Surf Club (ages 13 to 19 years) is $140.00 for the summer.
Kids Surf Club will take place between 10am and 11am and the Junior Surf Club from

Outdoor Day Camps (5 – 10 years)
Great
to have the kids getting fresh air and having fun this summer. The perfect way
to do this is to sign up for the Kids Outdoor Camps in Richmond. The kids will
learn and explore nature in a fun, educational way. The staff will let hands on
experiences instill values of respect for the environment and each other, as
kids play with bugs, be creative, connect with nature, get messy and have fun
doing all the things they love to do! Activities and programs are designed
around 3 themes: Outdoor Crafting, Beach Exploration, and Connecting with
Nature. These camps will be run by municipal summer staff.
The
Crafting Camp: Will take place at Battery Provincial Park, St. Peter’s on
Wednesday, July 6 (rain date -Thursday, July 7), from 9am to 12pm, Fee is
$10.00. And at the Lennox Passage Provincial Park at Lennox Passage on Tuesday,
July 26 (rain date – Wednesday, July 27) from 9am to 12pm. The Fee is $10.00.
The
Nature Camp will take place at Battery Provincial Park, St. Peter’s on Thursday,
July 14 (rain date – Friday, July 15) from 9am – 12pm. Fee is $10.00. And at
the Lennox Passage Provincial Park at Lennox Passage on Tuesday, August 2 (rain
date: Wednesday, August 3) from 9am – 12pm. Fee is $10.00.
The
Beach Camp – will be held at Battery Provincial Park, in St. Peter’s on Monday,

bicycle safety course for youth on Sunday, July 10 at the East Richmond
Elementry parking lot in St. Peter’s. The obstacle course is to promote safe
bicycling habits while near/on the road, hand signals, helmets and bicycle
repairs/maintenance. The RCMP will take the youth for a short bicycle ride on
the roadway and return to the starting location for a little BBQ. All riders
will need a helmet to participate. Some prizes will be awarded. This event is sponsored

to celebrate our place in the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Reserve. It includes

Members of the public are invited to attend the 8th
annual field day! Locations this year are at the St. Peter’s Marina,

the Canal” event has become an extraordinary community tradition of fun,
festivities and celebration. There are two swim options, enter in the
world-famous Bras d’Or Lake through the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic
Site, ending at Battery Provincial Park beach on the shores of the Atlantic
Ocean. You can swim the length, 800
meters or the width, 100 meters from Battery Park to the canal wall and back
All swimmers receive a monogrammed “Swim the Canal” towel to acknowledge their

admission cost ($20) is to cover insurance, lifeguards, washroom facilities,
musicians, t-shirts for volunteers etc. and a “Swim the Canal” water bottle.
Any profits from the event usually go to VOCA to help fund community events and
charities. This year any profits we be set aside for a charity to support
Ukrainian refugees. An online waiver is required to be acknowledged during
registration or signed during manual registration. Swimmers acknowledge and
accept the risks involved in this particular adventure tourism event. We
encourage the slow swimmers to start first to minimize the overall time in the
water.
