All week long we have these events planned for you:
Turning
the Tides
Originally designed as a commercial transport route,
it is now mainly used for pleasure craft entering the Bras d’Or Lakes for
summer adventure and for adventurers traveling to Newfoundland, St. Pierre and
Miquelon and Greenland. At the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site,
visitors can take a scenic walk along the 800-meter long canal and watch as
boats transit its unique double-gated tidal lock. The welcoming staff will
enlighten you as they present the history of the canal and explain the workings
of the tidal lock and swing bridge. Enjoy a day of fishing off the canal walls
or walk across the lock gates for an afternoon hike in the adjacent Battery Park
or the nearby coastal trail. Location: St. Peter’s Canal / Battery Park. Cost:

Monday,
August 1st
7:30pm:
- KitchenRackets - weekly summer jam session will take place at the Lions Club
Marina in St. Peter's. All players invited to sit in. Listeners welcome. This
is a family-friendly music event.

Walk
Hosted by Village on the Canal Association. Join us to
win prizes for best hand and door prizes.

The St. Peter’s Village Commission is hosting a
Village-wide scavenger hunt. Test your directional and problem solving skills
to solve all the clues while discovering St. Peter’s!

Hosted by the St. Peter’s Community Club, explore
three centuries of history of St. Pierre, Fort Toulouse, St. Peter’s Canal, and
Nicolas Denys. Location: Nicolas Denys Museum. Cost: Free.
MacAskill
Museum Auction
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Museum Society, the
auction will feature new merchandise, antiques, home baking, gift certificates,
door prizes and bidders’ prizes. Location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Cost: Free Admittance. Time: Viewing begins at
6:30pm / Auction opens at 7:30pm

Night Sailboat Race
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club and
sponsored by the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn, this is a fun summer race series which
takes place on the lake side of the canal. It is best viewed from the Visitors
Information Center on the shore of Jackson Bay.
Visiting boaters are encouraged to particip ate. Show up at the Marina
by 4:00 pm for the skippers meeting. After the race there is a gathering at the
Marina to review the results. Location: St. Peter’s Lions Marina and Jackson
Bay. Cost: Free. Time: Skipper’s Meeting 4pm. Race starts at 5pm

6:00pm- 7:30pm: - Concert By The Sea Series-
Free outdoor concert at Louisdale Lions Waterfront in Louisdale. Performers
will be . Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the music.
4pm – 8pm: - Wine Wednesday takes place at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn in St. Peter’s. Call 902-535-2200 for availability. Open 4-8pm tonight. Takeout start at 3:30pm. Full menu available.

Route: Begins on DeRaymond St., left onto Grenville St., left onto Argyle St.
(at the Caper Gas Service Station) towards Richmond Villa, back to Pepperell
Street and ending at the St. Peter’s Lions Hall. (Weather Permitting) Parade
Categories (Best): Commercial, Decorated Bicycle, Children’s, Organization,
Overall. Cost: Free. Time: Begins at 1:30pm sharp!
1pm
– 5pm: - Swim the Canal 2022: Far from Ordinary…. Be
Extraordinary. Our sixth annual “Swim the Canal” event has become an
extraordinary community tradition of fun, festivities and celebration. There
are two swim options, enter in the world-famous Bras d’Or Lake through the St.
Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, ending at Battery Provincial Park beach
on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. You
can swim the length, 800 meters or the width, 100 meters from Battery Park to
the canal wall and back. Spectators welcome. Come cheer us on. Be one of the growing list of extraordinary
individuals that can say… they swam the length of a historic canal! To

or sign up at Carrie’s Custom Cuts in St. Peter’s (902) 535-3135 or at the St. Peter's Visitor Information Centre. Hosted by The
Village on the Canal Association. Location: On site registration and check-in
for those pre-registered at Battery Provincial Park beach, St. Peter’s, 1:00
pm. Cost: $20 per person when you book before August 7th or $25 if paying on
the day of the Swim. Conditions: Any profits from the event usually go
to VOCA to help fund community events and charities. This year any profits we
be set aside for a charity to support Ukrainian refugees. An online waiver is
required to be acknowledged during registration or signed during manual
registration. Swimmers acknowledge and accept the risks involved in this
particular adventure tourism event. We encourage the slow swimmers to start
first to minimize the overall time in the water.
