The St. Peter's Canal |
I am sorry to announce that The St. Peter's Visitor Information Centre in Richmond County, Cape Breton will not be open this summer due to COVID -19. Hopefully when COVID - 19 has passed, we will be able to assist you once again at the Visitor Information Centre. This will be our first summer not being able to welcome guests as they arrive in our area, but I will be updating my Cape Breton Tourism Blog on a daily basis with what is or is not happening around the beautiful County of Richmond. This is definitely a different time in our history and although things have to be done a little different, I do hope you will check out my blog for events and happenings that my interest you during your visit to our area.
Unfortunately live entertainment has come to a complete stop for the moment at venues and lounges around the whole Island, but I am sure that our scenery and sites including the St. Peter's Canal, which is the oldest working Tidal Lock in North America, and our National Historic Site, will whole your interest. Another amazing adventure could include a drive around our beautiful Acadien Isle of Isle Madame or maybe along the spectacular Bras d'Or Lake, the larges Salt water Lake in North America, these are sure to capture your interest and will have you taking picture after picture as you view some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, all while maintaining proper distancing.
We are sad to say that The Nicolas Denys Museum will not be opening this season, but are in hopes of seeing guests in 2021.
I have been informed that there will be surf equippment rentals available at Point Michaud Beach this summer and I am waiting for more information to arrive on pricing and a schedule of what days they will be available, so please keep checking for the up date on that.
Many of our local restaurants are opening up for guests to enjoy their dine in service, and the take out restaurants have also re-opened, which is great so we now are able to meet many of our locals and visitors needs ,when it comes to great eating opportunities. When in Richmond you are sure to enjoy great food and excellent service by friendly staff members.
Below you will see our Richmond County Events Calendar. as new information becomes available I will be adding it to the calendar.

Richmond County Literacy Network would like to invite you to a Rock Painting

with scenes or characters. Our goal is to have as many rocks as possible spread
throughout the county waiting to be discovered.
This two-hour
workshop will be led by Ashley Dempsey, and delivered over Zoom. There is no
cost - and if you need a rock or two, they can be found outside of the RCLN
offices in Arichat and St. Peters.
Pre-register
with the RCLN at 902-226-0383, or by email at milliehatt@hotmail.com. A link to

Richmond County
Literacy Network
Rock Art Poster
As a literacy
organization, we promote the love and joy of reading.
We now wish to
witness the wonder and surprise when young children happen upon a painted rock
of one of your favorite storybook characters. Rock painting and hiding these
rocks is becoming a passionate hobby for young and old alike.
Join us in the
fun and see where our rocks can travel!
To paint a
rock, please use acrylic paint or markers. You may sign your rock or put your
initials only. It is not necessary to apply sealant as we will be adding
information on the back of the rock. Once completed, please drop off your rock
(s) to either our St. Peter's or Arichat locations or call the Richmond County
Literacy Network at (902) 226-0383 for pick-up.
The painted
rocks will be hidden throughout Richmond County during the summer. Once a rock
is found, we will be asking that a picture be taken of the child holding the
rock and then posted to our Facebook page. We will also ask that the location
be given as to where the rock was found. The child may keep the rock or hide it
again for another child to discover. Again, sharing the joy of reading!
