Events that will run all week long:
Pay It Forward:
Paying it forward is about doing something nice for someone, and then they pass that kindness on to someone else. Post your stories on the Events St. Peter’s Facebook Page and let’s get sharing some of the goodness in our community!
Turning the Tides:
At the St. Peter’s Canal National Historic Site, visitors can take a scenic walk along the 800-meter long canal and watch as boats transit its unique double-gated tidal lock. The welcoming staff will enlighten you as they present the history of the canal and explain the workings of the tidal lock and swing bridge. Enjoy a day of fishing off the canal walls or walk across the lock gates for an afternoon hike in the adjacent Battery Park or the nearby coastal trail. Location: St. Peter’s Canal / Battery Park Cost: Free

 Arts & Crafts at the St. Peter’s Library:
Calling all creative kids! Eastern Counties Regional Library is hosting a free arts and crafts session at the St. Peter’s location. All week long (except Sunday). Guardians must accompany children. Location: St. Peter’s Library. Cost: Free. Time: 1-3pm

 Monday, August 1st
Poker Walk:
Hosted by Village on the Canal Association. Join us to win prizes for best hand and door prizes. Six cards drawn, use the best of 5 to make your hand! (Weather Permitting). Location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Cost: $5.00 / Poker Hand - Time: Registration 6pm-6:30pm

Family Square Dance:
Live players and traditional steps, with Roddie’s Square Dance Society, United Church Hall. Location: United Church Hall. Cost: $5/person (under 12 free) / Family of 4 or more $15 Time: 7pm-9pm.

Live Entertainment at the Inn:
Rock and roll music by Doug Davis! Food and beverages available for purchase until 8ppm. Location: Bras d’Or Lakes Inn Dining Room and Bar. Cost: $5 per person. Time: 7pm-9pm. (Open to All Ages)

Tuesday, August 2nd
Teddy Bear Picnic:
Hosted by the Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre, this year’s picnic will include storytime, crafts, and physical activities. Bring a picnic lunch and don’t forget your favorite teddy bear or super hero – we’ll be giving them a medical and dental check-up! Location: George Robertson Recreation Complex fields. (Rain location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall). Cost: Free. Time: 10am-12noon.

Village Scavenger Hunt:
The St. Peter’s Village Commission is hosting a Village-wide scavenger hunt. Test your directional and problem solving skills to solve all the clues while discovering St. Peter’s. Prizes will be awarded.(Weather Permitting). Location: Village Kiosk in front of the Post Office. Cost: Free. Time: Registration 2pm-3pm (check back in before 6pm).

Open Jam Session at the MacBouch:
Join one of our local hosts for an evening jam session with a country, rock and traditional music mix. Location: MacBouch Restaurant & Lounge. Cost: $3/person and Jammers are Free! Time: 7pm-9pm

St. Peter’s Lion’s Club BIG Bingo:
Try your luck at a special Tuesday night bingo! Up to $20,000 could go. Full card jackpot of $10,000 in 48 numbers or less with $2,000 to go! Location: St. Peter’s Lion’s Club. Cost: Prices vary depending on cards purchased. Time: Early Bird Game at 7:45pm / Regular Games at 8pm

Wednesday, August 3rd

Nicolas Denys Museum Open House:
Hosted by the St. Peter’s Community Club, explore three centuries of history of St. Pierre, Fort Toulouse, St. Peter’s Canal, and Nicolas Denys. Location: Nicolas Denys Museum Cost: Free. Time: 1pm-4pm

MacAskill Museum Auction:
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Museum Society, the auction will feature new merchandise, antiques, home baking, gift certificates, door prizes and bidders’ prizes. Location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Cost: Free Admittance. Time: Viewing begins at 6:30pm / Auction opens at 7:30pm

Wednesday Night Sailboat Race
Hosted by the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club, this is a fun summer race series on the lake side of the canal in Jackson Bay. Visitors to our community are welcome to jump on a boat and join in the fun. Show up at the Marina by 5:00 pm and check with boats that are preparing to race. You can also call Gordon at 631-3754 and he will find you a spot on a boat, as available. After the race there is a gathering at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn to review the results. Location: St. Peter’s Lions Marina. Cost: Free (Donations Welcome). Time: Skipper’s Meeting 5:15pm / Registration 5:30pm, Race starts at 6pm

Concert By the Sea:
Free outdoor concert series showcasing the best of our local talent. (Weather Permitting).Location: St Peter’s Lions Marina. Cost: Free. Time: 6pm-7pm.

Parks Are For People Guided Walk:
Enjoy the sights and sounds of St. Peter’s Bay on a guided walk through the Park. (Weather Permitting). Location: Jerome Point Lighthouse in Battery Park.Cost: Free.Time: Begins at 7pm

Local Live Music:
Hosted by John Stockley – all musicians are welcome to join in! Food and beverages available for purchase. Location: Bras d’Or Lakes Inn Dining Room and Bar. Cost: $5 per person. Time: 7pm-9pm. (Open to All Ages)

Thursday, August 4th.
The Village Kids have Talent:
For children 13 & under – all talents welcome! Hosted by Myles Davidson – his new CD will be available for purchase at the event. This show will feature singing, dancing, playing instruments, poetry, comedy acts, etc. Prizes awarded to all participants! Pre-sign up is appreciated but last minute performers are welcome! Contact Shanna at 535-2987 or shanna_kendra@hotmail.com. Audience votes – snacks & drinks provided during voting break! Location: United Church Hall. Cost: Silver Collection which is given back to the top three winners. Time: 5:30pm

Friends of Leona Chowder:
Hosted by the Friends of Leona, enjoy a delicious chowder dinner (seafood and corn chowder available) and show your support for our local breast cancer chapter. Enjoy your chowder in the company of friends, or if you are on the fly, get your chowder to go (order on site or call 535-2482). Supper should always be that easy…and that delicious! Location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Cost: $10.00/person. Time: 4:30pm.

Graveyard Tour – United Church Cemetery:
Have you ever thought of a graveyard as a place of adventure, learning and discovery? Have you ever read names and dates and wondered what kind of life the people led? Join guide Clair Rankin for a tour of the United Church Cemetery to learn about the history of our community. Location: United Church Cemetery. Cost: Free. Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm

Songwriters’ Circle:
Join local songwriters Robert Bouchard, David Stone, and Owenstone Sound (Wendy Abbott and Rosie Sampson) for an evening of great entertainment and unique collaborations. Location: MacBouch Restaurant & Lounge. Cost: $10 per person. Time: 8pm.

Friday, August 5th
IWK Hawaiian Run/Walk:
Come dressed in your Hawaiian best and enjoy music, snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn and get some exercise walking/running around the track. All money goes to the IWK so please come out and show your support!!! Sponsored by the Municipality of Richmond. Contact Shanna for more info or a pledge sheet (535-2987). Location: George Robertson Recreation Complex (St. Peter’s ballfield). Cost: $5/person or you can get pledges – medals & prizes. Saturday, August 6th
Festival Slow-Pitch Tournament:
Co-ed slow-pitch tournament hosted by Richmond Minor Baseball. Register teams by calling Marvin at 535-2137. 1st Prize $600, 2nd Prize $300! (Prize levels based on 8 teams registered). Location: St. Peter’s Ball Field. Cost: $250 / team + 2 balls. Time: Games begin at 8am

Under 10 Fishing Derby:Children under 10 can cast their line at Rankin’s Pond. Bring your lucky rod and keep your catch! Rain Date Sunday, Aug 7. Location: Rankin’s Pond (9735 Granville Street). Cost: Free. Time: 10am – 12noon

East Coast Credit Union BBQ:
Satisfy your summer snack! Join the Credit Union staff for a BBQ in support of Richmond Minor Baseball. Location: East Coast Credit Union on Grenville Street. Cost: Hot Dogs $2each / Sausages $3each / Pop, Kool Aid and Water $1 each. Time: 11am – 2pm.

Swim the Canal – Jerome Point Light Fundraiser:
Hosted by The Village on the Canal Association, our third annual “Swim the Canal” event revives a community tradition in a fun and safe way! There are 2 swim options through the locks and all swimmers will be awarded a t-shirt to acknowledge their accomplishment. This event will bring people together through a fun and nostalgic community activity, reviving what was once a rite of passage! Be one of the first in the world to swim the length of a canal. Sunday, August 7th
5KM Park Run:
Hosted by Kin-Excel. Join us for a 5KM run to start your day on the right foot! Set your own speed to see scenic St. Peter’s and Battery Park. (Rain or Shine!). Location: Kin-Excel Cost: Free. Time: 8am

Parish Potluck Dinner:
Hosted by the St. Peter’s Parish, enjoy a down-home potluck supper – a great opportunity to experience some great Cape Breton cooking! Location: St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Cost: Free Will Offering. Time: 11:30am

Nicolas Denys Days Festival Parade:
The 2016 parade is hosted by the 824 Silver Dart Air Cadets and will include participation by local organizations and businesses, and a host of characters! Show your community spirit by participating in the parade! Parade Route: Begins on DeRaymond St., left onto Grenville St., left onto Argyle St. (at the Caper Gas Service Station) towards Richmond Villa, back to Pepperell Street and ending at the St. Peter’s Lions Hall. (Weather Permitting) Parade Categories (Best): Commercial, Decorated Bicycle, Children’s, Organization, Overall Cost: Free. Time: Begins at 1:30pm Sharp!

Live Entertainment at the Inn:
Join local musician Chelsea Dakai the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn for an evening of music and song. Food and beverages available for purchase. Location: Bras d’Or Lakes Inn Dining Room and Bar. Cost: $5 per person. Time: 6pm-8pm. (Open to All Ages)
