The Wallace MacAskill House Museum in St. Peter's

Interested in the Rich History of Richmond County, we are so fortunate to have amazing Museums where you can find out about the people who opened up this area for our settlers, the friends ships they made and the hardships they had to overcome, which all made this county what it is today.

One must see location is at the Nicolas Denys Museum in St. Peter's, they are opened 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm. They cover the days of Nicolas Denys settlement of 1650, the history of the St. Peter's Canal which was completed in 1869, and the history of Port Toulouse of 1713 right up to our current time period.
Another amazing must see spot is the LeNoir Forge Museum operated by the Isle Madame Historical Society in Arichat. An excellent spot to not only find out about our Acadien History but also to do some Genealogy Research. LeNoir Forge is open as follows: Tuesday June 28 to Saturday, August 27, open 10am-5pm.
Closed Sunday and Monday, and from Tuesday August 30 to Friday, October 14, the museum will be open from 1pm to 5pm and closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. They also have restricted hours on the following dates:
-July 1 - Giftshop, Bookstore open all day and the Museum will be open from 2-5 only.
-July 2 - Giftshop, Bookstore will be open all day and the Museum will be closed all day.
-July 9 - Giftshop, Bookstore will be open all day and the Museum will be open from 10-2 only.
Another must see stop while in St. Peter's is the Wallace MacAskill House Museum, the home of the renown Marine Photographer Wallace MacAskill. It is his photo of the Bluenose that is on our dime. The Museum is also a Heritage House so come check out the style of our homes from that Wallace's youth. Always interesting, besides viewing his beautiful paintings and seeing some of the cameras he would have used. The museum will be open daily with summer staff starting July 1. Come to Richmond County, where our history is important to us and hopefully you will agree. We look forward to your visit.
