The Vote is in! # 1 Island in Continental United States and Canada

What a week it has been for Destination Cape Breton Association and the tourism industry on Cape Breton. Not only did The Bras d'Or Lake receive recognition by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve which is amazing. But our island (Cape Breton) has received top grades by Travel + Leisure which names Cape Breton #1 Island Destination in Continental US and Canada, #3 in the WORLD! This is not the first time Cape Breton has received this recognition but the third time the island has received this special award, beating out Vancouver Island and Nantucket this year for the coveted spot.
That makes it even more meaningful, as it is not just a flash in the pan but we have been able to maintain the requirements to achieve this award presented by the Travel and Leisure Magazine.
Also on Friday Staff members including Destination Cape Breton Association's CEO Mary Tulle, attended an open house at their new information kiosk located on the Halifax Waterfront. The open house took place from 10am until noon and invited guests to drop by to learn more about our island destination.
This is the first regional destination in Nova Scotia to have a presence on the Halifax Waterfront. DCBA in partnership with Ambassatours, now has an information outlet with the capability of reaching thousands of visitors who visit the Halifax waterfront during the summer. The kiosk staff will be focusing on promoting our beautiful island and helping with travel plans for our area with new visitors as well as regular visitors. Members from DCBA were on hand to speak with members of the industry about their 2011 plans for attracting visitors to the island such as the introduction of the Cape Breton themed motor coach fleets.

This is a portion of a Press Release by DCBA's CEO Mary Tulle.
