The tour will begin at the St. Peter’s Canal at 10:30am and you return at 4pm. Surfers coming to Richmond will want to make a visit to Richmond’s hidden treasure Point Michaud Beach, where Michelle Richards Richmond’s Recreation Department’s Surf instructor gives lessons 7 days a week. Point Michaud also has a lifeguard on site this year. Point Michaud is not only an excellent surf location but it is one of the best beaches for beachcombing, bird watching, sun bathing, not to mention swimming, and the perfect location for kids playing in the sand. It is definitely a must stop destination for the beach goers. Richmond also has two diving operators in the county. PADI Dive Center Easy Dive is located in St. Georges Channel and the second operator who offers diving is Vollmer Island Paradise on Janvrins Island.
On July 17th, Velo Cape Breton hosted the Cross the Highlands Challenge in which 74 cyclists competed in the St. Peter's edition of the challenge and completed a 25km through Oban and a 60 km trek over Pringle and Camerons Mountains and back to town. Following the Challenge cyclists gathered at the Fire Hall in St. Peters and enjoyed lots of stories of the days adventures and music provided by Kayla Bona of the Cape Breton Heritage Coast and a BBQ provided by Velo. From all the cyclists who took, part it was a tremious experience and one that cyclists will be looking forward to next year. Richmond has some great cycling areas.
